(RV) Men's Soccer Holds Early Lead in Win Against CIU

COLUMBIA, S.C.- An early goal was all that separated the (RV) men's soccer team and the Columbia International University Rams in their game on Saturday.

The goal occurred in the seventh minute. A scramble inside the Columbia International 18-yard box ended with Kuda Nhiwatiwa sneaking a ball past the opposing goalkeeper to give the team a 1-0 advantage in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest. The score did not change over the remaining 38 minutes of the first half.

In the second half, the opponents went on the offensive. Columbia International took six shots and forced five corner kicks over the 45 minutes in the second half. The defense stood tall though as goalies Michael Garrihy and Pedro DeMoraes along with the defensive backfield did not allow the opponents to score a goal, turning the team's 1-0 lead into a 1-0 victory.

This was the team's fifth consecutive shutout win and the first time Columbia International was held scoreless this season.

Up next for the Bulldogs (7-2-3, 7-0-1 AAC) is a home contest against the newcomers to the AAC, the University of Pikeville. The game at the TWU Athletic Complex is set for Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
