No. 6 Seed Softball Falls to No. 7 Seed Brenau in AAC Tournament

KINGSPORT, Tenn.- After a day of rest, the softball team returned to the field at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the sixth-seeded Lady Bulldogs fell to No. 7 seed Brenau University.

Tennessee Wesleyan tied the game in the bottom of the first inning. Bailee Philips started a two-out rally with a double, scoring on a Mackenzie Baldwin single up the middle. Baldwin moved to the other corner of the softball diamond on Taylor Penning's single and scored in the same sequence in a fielding error to tie the score 2-2.

Another two-out rally occurred in the bottom of the second inning for the Lady Bulldogs. This time, Macy Chastain started the rally, getting on base with a single and moving to second via a stolen base. The runner scored on a Courtney Sneed single to move the Lady Bulldogs ahead by one run. The game became tied again in the third inning. The tie was severed in the fifth inning by Brenau, and another run in the sixth gave the opponents a 5-3 lead.

TWU was able to get one of the runs back in the bottom of the sixth inning. Baldwin started the inning with a walk and stole second. A single by Tatum Massengale moved Baldwin closer to home at third before a sacrifice fly by Kaley Bradley gave Baldwin the space to score, cutting the deficit to one run at 5-4. The team was unable to record any more runs as Brenau scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning as they fell for the first time in the double elimination tournament.

Sneed, Baldwin, and Bradley all had RBIs in the game.

The Lady Bulldogs (24-11) will play an elimination game on Thursday. The team will try to avoid elimination in their game against No. 2 seed Bryan College at 1:00 p.m.
