Women's Lacrosse Unable to Overcome Momentum Shift Against USHP
EARTH CITY, Mo.- The women's lacrosse team concluded their road trip in Missouri with a game against the University of Health and Sciences in St. Louis Eutectics on Wednesday. The team battled but fell in a close game 11-9.
After one quarter, the score was even at three goals each. The opponents scored the first three goals. The team came roaring back with a goal by Kylie Heinrich and two goals by Olivia Downey.
The second quarter saw the teams exchange goals. Downey scored both goals for the team, one off a Kate Buchanan assist and one off a Heinrich assist. The goal exchanges made the score 5-5 at halftime.
The momentum changed in the third quarter. The opponents scored the first three goals of the second half. Downey got one back but USHP scored two more to lead 9-6. The team was not able to match though as Jozlyn Long and Downey, who scored this time off a Stephanie Rocha assist, made the score 10-8 at the end of the third quarter.
The remainder of the game saw each team score a goal. Alli Duenckel scored for the Lady Bulldogs as they fell by the two-goal margin.
Downey led the team with six goals. Rylee Brendlinger had 11 saves in the net.
Up next for TWU (1-4) is a non-conference home game against Madonna University on Saturday. The game is set for 3:30 p.m.
