ATHENS, Tenn.- Saturday served as the opening day for the volleyball team. For their 2024 season opener, the team faced the Saint Mary of the Wood College Pomeroys in two matches.
Match One:
In the first match of the day, a rough first set for the Lady Bulldogs saw the visitors take a 1-0 lead after winning the first set 25-14. In the second set, TWU was in control for much of the set. Unfortunately near the end of the set, St. Mary of the Woods went on a run to win the second set 25-22. The third set had a similar score to the second set with the visitors winning 25-19 to take the first match 3-0.
Alley Hibdon led the offense with nine kills. Bailey Dalton and Olivia Bolin both finished with 12 assists while Megan Thompson had 11 digs.
Match Two:
Six errors hurt the Lady Bulldogs in the first set of a 25-14 loss to the visitors. Even though the team had a match-high 10 kills in the second set, Tennessee Wesleyan was not able to take the second set, falling 25-16. The match ended with the visitors winning the third set 25-17 to win the second match 3-0.
Amya Sutton and Hibdon both finished with five kills in the match. Bolin led with seven assists to go along with 25 digs by Thompson.
Up next for the Lady Bulldogs is the two-day Milligan Mountain Madness on Friday and Saturday. The team begins the Milligan Mountain Madness with a match against Rio Grande on Friday at 12:00 p.m., followed by a match against Blue Mountain Christian University at 5:00 p.m.
