No. 3 Baseball Takes Series Against (RV) Milligan

Elizabethton, Tenn.- The three-game Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series between the third-ranked baseball team and the (RV) Milligan University Buffaloes ended with a single game on Sunday. TWU swept the doubleheader to begin the series on Saturday.

Sunday's game was scoreless through the first four innings as pitching and defense took display. Tennessee Wesleyan got on the board in the fifth and sixth inning.

Cayle Webster scored the lone run in the fifth inning, a solo home run to remove both a goose egg from the scoreboard, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. In the sixth inning, Dan Sayre got on base with a walk, stole second, and moved to third on an error by the opposing second baseman. A single by Braxton Turner moved the lead to 2-0 when Sayre scored. Webster recorded his second RBI of the game when his double brought in Turner, who was standing on second after a Parker Stinnett walk.

TWU held their 3-0 lead until the bottom of the eighth inning when the Buffaloes scored two runs to cut the lead to one. The scoreboard read 3-2 in favor of the Bulldogs as the final out of the game was recorded, giving the team the series sweep.

Robert Kelley picked up the win on the mound, pitching six innings in the start and striking out five batters while only giving up one hit. Kyle Bloor was credited with the save, striking out two batters. Webster led the offense with two RBIs to go along with an RBI from Turner.

Tennessee Wesleyan (16-1, 9-0 AAC) will stay on the road for their next game. The team will step out of conference play for their next three games, playing two of them on Tuesday.
