No. 3 Baseball Splits Non-Conference Doubleheader

Shreveport, La.- The third-ranked baseball team stayed on the road for their next set of action. The team was scheduled to play two games on Tuesday. The first game was against the Texas A&M University-Texarkana Eagles and the second game was against the No. 4 team in the NAIA, the Louisiana State University-Shreveport Pilots.

vs. Texas A&M Texarkana

In this first-ever meeting between the two teams, defense, and pitching took center stage through four and a half innings. Neither team scored until the fifth inning of the game. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the opponents scored first, taking a 3-0 run after the fifth inning. TWU made their way back to the top in the seventh inning.

Jacob Tolson got a base via a single in the seventh inning. A wild pitch moved courtesy runner Aiden McClary to second base before Andre Tarver's double down the left field line gave McClary the space to score to make the score 3-1 at the end of the seventh inning.

As the team continued to take over the scoreboard, Braxton Turner and Parker Stinnett each earned walks in the eighth inning. Cayle Webster loaded the bases with a single to left field. A flyout to left field by Evan Magill turned into a sacrifice fly when Turner scored from third base, pulling the team within one run of the lead. A passed ball tied the score when Stinnett crossed home plate, moving Webster to third. Pinch-hitter Cody McGill gave the Bulldogs the lead with his single bringing Webster across home plate. McGill stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error, giving the team an insurance run when he scored on Cade Bochlter's double, giving Tennessee Wesleyan a 5-3 lead they went on to win by.

Magill, McGill, Bochlter, and Tarver all had RBIs in the win. Carmine Poppiti was credited with the win, striking out six batters. Alex Wize was credited with the save.

vs. LSU-Shreveport

The day ended with the Bulldogs facing the No. 4 team, LSU-Shreveport. This was the first meeting between the two teams since the 2012 season.

The first lead of the game went to the Pilots, who scored two runs in the second inning to lead 2-0 In the third inning, the game eventually became tied.

Three straight walks loaded the bases with Tolson, Tarver, and Dan Sayre. Turner gave TWU the lead with his double, scoring all three runners on base, giving the team a one-run lead after the top of the third. In the bottom of the third, LSU-Shreveport scored a run to tie the game 3-3 after three innings. The tie was broken in the fourth inning by the opponents, who moved ahead 7-3 after the fourth inning. The team was unable to pull any closer though, going on to fall in the game 9-3.

Turner finished the game with three RBIs.

The split on the day moved the team's record to 17-2.
