No. 3 Baseball Blast No. 14 Bryan

Dayton, Tenn.- The baseball team, the No. 3 team in the NAIA, went on the road to face the No. 14 team in the NAIA. A short trip down the road took the team to the home of the Bryan College Lions. The two conference rivals met in a non-conference game.

Both teams scored in the first inning. A walk and two singles put Carson Ford, Dan Sayre, and Marco Martinez on to load the bases, Andre Tarver single brought the first run on the board as Ford scored and the first inning ended in a tie after both halves were played.

In the top of the second inning, the Bulldogs took back the lead. Parker Stinnett began the inning with a double, moving to third on an Aiden McClary single. A fielder's choice by Ford scored Stinnett and an error on the play kept McClary on the bases at second. Sayre singled to bring in McClary and a fielder's choice on Martinez's at-bat brought Ford across home plate. Martinez scored the fourth and final run of the inning on a Tarver single. The opponents responded with a four-run inning of their own in the third to tie the game again at 5-5.

In the fourth inning, Tennessee Wesleyan went on a run they never looked back from. A homer by Martinez and a Cayle Webster RBI groundout that scored Tarver broke the tie and gave the Bulldogs a 7-5 advantage. The fifth inning saw TWU score six runs, starting with Evan Magill off a Ford RBI-single. A sacrifice fly by Sayre brought Braxton Turner over home plate and Ford scored on a Cody McGill single to make the score 10-5. Webster brought in Tarver with his single while McGill scored on a Stinnett single. Webster was the final run of the inning, scoring on a Magill single to make the lead 13-5.

Like the first inning, Ford, Sayre, and Martinez all got on base to begin the sixth inning. This time, Tarver cleared all the bases with his grand slam home run to right field, moving the score to 17-5. The Bulldogs went on to win by the 12-run margin.

Tarver led the offense with six RBIs while Ford and Webster each added two RBIs. Blank got the pitching win.

Tennessee Wesleyan (32-6) returns back to Athens for their final home series of the season. The team will play a single AAC game against (RV) Reinhardt on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
