No. 21 Baseball Unable to Comeback Against (RV) Milligan

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn.- The baseball team opened an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series on Friday. The 21st-ranked Bulldogs faced the (RV) Milligan University in a single game to open the three-game series. 

The first run of the game occurred in the third inning. It came across for TWU. After getting on base via a hit by pitch and moving to second on a Carson Ford walk, Kruise Newman scored off Blake Hubble's RBI single to give the team a 1-0 lead. The team added more runs to their lead in the fifth inning.

Ford opened the fifth with a walk and was followed by a Braxton Turner walk. After moving to third on a fly out, Ford scored on a sacrifice fly by Marco Martinez to move the lead to 2-0. A double by Jack Stevens brought Turner across home plate, giving the team a 3-0 lead as they came out for defense in the fifth inning. The defensive half of the fifth inning saw Milligan score three runs to tie the game in the fifth and scored another three runs in the sixth to pu the Bulldogs in a 6-3 hole. Newman hit a home run in the eighth but the team was not able to find more runs, falling in the game 6-4.

Gage Vailes had five strikeouts in the game while Julian Berinti had four strikeouts in the game. 

Tennessee Wesleyan (20-11, 12-6 AAC) will close the series out against Milligan on Saturday with a doubleheader. The first game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
