ATHENS, Tenn.- Head baseball coach Billy Berry is pleased to welcome a new coach to his coaching staff. Berry announced Mike Mendoza as the Associate Head Coach for the baseball program on Wednesday. Mendoza joins the staff after spending five seasons as an assistant coach for the Southeastern University Fire baseball program.

During his five seasons with the Fire, Mendoza was an integral part of recruiting that led to the Fire qualifying for the Avista-NAIA World Series from 2021- 2024 and winning the NAIA Championship in 2022. Following the 2021 season, Mendoza was named the NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

"I'm extremely grateful and humbled to accept the position of Associate Head Coach and work with such a prestigious baseball program. I look forward to contributing my best efforts to the continued success of TWU Baseball. I would like to thank President Dr. Tyler Forrest, Vice President and Director of Athletics Donny Mayfield, and Head Coach Billy Berry for the opportunity to join the TWU athletics baseball staff," stated Mendoza.

Prior to his time at Southeastern, Mendoza spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Faulkner University. Faulkner appeared in the Avista-NAIA World Series each of the four years of Mendoza's tenure with the Eagles. "We are extremely excited to add Coach Mendoza to our staff. Mike is a proven winner at the NAIA level. This hire is something that we have talked about for a few years, and I am grateful that the time is now. Coach Daniel Wood and myself are looking forward to preparing for the upcoming season with Coach Mendoza," stated Berry.

Mendoza is a native of San Gabriel, California, and played his collegiate career at Glendale Community College and Iowa Wesleyan University.
