Men's Basketball Drops Road Game to CIU

Columbia, S.C.- The schedule for the men's basketball team took them on the road on Saturday. The team traveled to face the Columbia International University Rams in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game.

Elisha Mayberry put the game in a 2-2 tie. The game took a turn as the Rams went on to score 15 of the next 18 points to take a 17-5 lead at the 14:29 mark. With 7:52 remaining in the first half, scoring from Peyton West, Ty Patterson, Kobe Pride, and Ray Tyler helped the Bulldogs cut the deficit down to one point, a 26-25 score. After Pride's layup cut the Columbia International lead down to one point again, Tyler's layup gave the team their first lead of the game at 29-28. Patterson moved the lead to 31-28 on the next possession and the points kept climbing for TWU, as scores from Darius Rozie, Patterson, and Pride made the score 39-32. The opponents scored the last six points of the first half, making the score 39-38 at halftime.

The opponents kept their scoring momentum, putting the first 10 points on the scoreboard in the second half to lead 48-39 two minutes in. Columbia International held on and continued to match baskets with the Bulldogs as Patterson, Pride, West, and Tyler scored, with the latter score making the scoreboard read 58-49. With 57 seconds left, Tennessee Wesleyan battled back to cut the deficit to four points on Pride's layup. The team pulled within four points on three more occasions in the remaining seconds but could not overcome the full deficit, falling 79-73.

Pride led the team with 17 points while Patterson had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Mayberry and Tyler each added 13 points.

The loss moved the team's record to 14-5 overall and 13-5 in the AAC.
