No. 8 Men's Lacrosse Drops Overtime Contest Against Lawrence Tech

Athens, Tenn.- The men's lacrosse team played their third consecutive home game of a four-game homestand on Saturday. The seventh-ranked Bulldogs hosted the (RV) Lawrence Tech Blue Devils.

In what turned out to be a high-scoring game, the teams combined for 12 goals in the first quarter. Lawrence Tech scored the first four goals. Tennessee Wesleyan scored the next four goals. Jackson Lollis scored the first goal of the game for the Bulldogs, followed by Jack Driscoll on a Matthew Tullock assist. Hayden Harmon scored next to make the score 4-3 and Carson Bowling tied the game 4-4 off Kennedy Moore's pass. The opponents broke the tie before goals by Robert Holekamp and Moore, off a Driscoll assist, gave TWU a 6-5 lead. Lawrence Tech scored before the end of the quarter to tie the score 6-6.

Harmon broke the tie, scoring on Lollis' assist to give the team the lead. Tullock used Moore's pass to make the lead two goals. Lawrence Tech scored the next two goals to put the game back in a tie, an 8-8 score. The half ended with the Bulldogs leading. Driscoll used a Tullock pass to score and Bowling used an assist by Driscoll to score, giving the team a 10-8 lead at halftime.

Out of the halftime break, the Blue Devils scored five consecutive goals to take a 13-10 lead. Wes Christian and Harmon cut the deficit to one goal, each scoring a goal before the end of the third quarter to make the score 13-12 at the beginning of the fourth.

Holekamp scored three consecutive goals, one off a Lollis assist, to begin the fourth quarter. The goals move the team ahead 15-13. After a Lawrence Tech goal, Lollis found Bowling open for a goal, giving Tennessee Wesleyan a 16-14 lead with seven minutes remaining in the game. The opponents scored two goals to tie the game with 4:57 remaining. Neither team added a goal over the remaining time in regulation, sending the game to overtime.

In the first-to-score wins overtime period, Lawrence Tech was the first to score, giving them a 17-16 win.

Holekamp led with four goals in the game while Bowling had three goals. Driscoll added two goals. Kyle Gasior had 24 ground balls in the game. Lollis aided with three assists. Jack Shaw had 16 saves in the net.

The homestand concludes for the Bulldogs (4-3, 1-2 AAC) with a game against No. 7 Aquinas College on Thursday. The game is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
