(RV) Men's Soccer Unleash Seven Goals in Season-Opening Win

Pensacola, Fla.- The men's soccer team kicked off the 2022 season on Friday. The team traveled to Florida to play their first game of the season, taking on the Pensacola Christian College Eagles.

The first shot of the game was the first goal of the game. The goal counted towards the Bulldogs' side as Billy Boag scored to give TWU a 1-0 advantage. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, their lead turned into a deficit as Pensacola Christian scored two quick goals to move ahead 2-1. Two minutes later, Boag tied the score with his second goal of the contest, making the score 2-2. It seemed the game was going to remain tied at the halftime break as shots by Wynand Wessels, Edon Mehana, Bradley Jenkins and Gavin Morgan missed the net. With five minutes until halftime though, Boag recorded his third goal of the game to earn a hat trick and give the Bulldogs a 3-2 advantage at the intermission.

The second half was all Tennessee Wesleyan. Boag added another goal to his stat line to give him four on the day and the Bulldogs a 4-2 advantage. Mehana got in on the scoring action, making the lead 5-2 off a Luis Ortiz and Casey Beck assist. A minute later, Wessels moved the lead to 6-2, scoring on a Cian Gantley assist. The game ended with TWU ahead 7-2 as Dave Neijenhuis added the final score for the team.

The Bulldogs outshot the Eagles 30-4 in the game and had a 9-2 corner kick advantage.
