(RV) Men's Soccer Outduel Cavaliers

Athens, Tenn.- A small schedule change saw the (RV) men's soccer team return to action on Friday. Playing on their home field, the Bulldogs hosted the Montreat College Cavaliers in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).

Shots by Jonah Lewis, Manny Arredondo, Lewis Menga, and Dave Neijenhuis did not produce a goal for the Bulldogs early in the game. The offensive pressure did pay off though as Arredondo was fouled in the box by a Montreat player, giving TWU a penalty kick. Wynand Wessels stepped into the box to take the kick, blasting the sitting ball past the keeper to give the Bulldogs the first lead of the game. Tyriq Gordon and Rio Hairyes saw their shots miss the mark, and the score remained 1-0 as the halftime buzzer sounded.

Tennessee Wesleyan expanded their lead five minutes into the second half. Lewis met the flying ball from a Billy Boag corner kick and slipped it into the net, moving the score to 2-0. Seven minutes later, Lewis connected with the net again. Cian Gantley sent a pass to Lewis, who took the ball and sent it flying into the net to make the lead 3-0. Minutes later, Montreat scored to cut the lead down to two goals. Another ball did not cross either goal line, ending the game with the Bulldogs as the 3-1 winners.

This is the third time this season Lewis scored two goals in a game.

TWU (4-1-5, 3-1-2 AAC) head back on the road for their next game.
