(RV) Men's Soccer Shutouts Truett McConnell

Athens, Tenn.- The schedule saw the (RV) men's soccer team return to their home field for Homecoming on Saturday. The team hosted the Truett McConnell University Bears in a conference game.

Early in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game, the Bulldogs controlled the flow of offense. The team forced multiple corner kicks and saw header shots by Jonah Lewis and Gavin Morgan along with shots by Bradley Jenkins and Edon Mehana. Unfortunately for the team, those offensive chances did not produce a goal. Michael Garrihy and the defense kept the opponents from scoring in the first half, moving the game into a scoreless tie at halftime.

The first goal of the game occurred eight minutes into the second half. Lewis Menga drew a foul just outside the box resulting in a free kick. Wynand Wessels lined the kick up and sent it flying past the opposing goalkeeper to give the team a 1-0 advantage in the 53rd minute. As the defense continued to stand its ground, Tennessee Wesleyan was able to add another goal. Cian Gantley sent a ball into the box Menga headed near the keeper that Jenkins was able to beat the opposing goalkeeper to, sticking it into the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage the Bulldogs went on to win by.

The win moved the team's record to 6-1-5 overall and 5-1-2 in the AAC.
