Men's Soccer Records Fourth Straight Shutout Win

Bluefield, Va.- The men's soccer was back in action on Friday. The schedule took the team on the road to face the Bluefield University Rams, an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent.

After some back-and-forth play between the two teams, the first goal occurred in the 24th minute. The point went towards the Bulldogs, who went ahead 1-0 on a Cian Gantley goal assisted by Jarimyah Cook. A low-scoring first half ended with TWU holding a 2-0 advantage after a Wynand Wessels goal in the 38th minute.

The second half saw six goals scored. The first happened four seconds into the half when Jonah Lewis scored on a Gantley and Charlie Wood assist. Forty-five seconds later, Cook scored to make the lead 4-0. The fifth goal of the game was posted in the 48th minute and scored by Cook, this time off a Dave Neijenhuis assist. Near the conclusion of the game, the Bulldogs scored three goals within three minutes to make the winning score 8-0. Wessels recorded a second goal in the 64th minute of the contest while Lewis scored his second goal in the 66th minute. Neijenhuis completed the scoring 35 seconds later with a goal of his own, giving the team their eight-goal margin of victory. This was the team's fourth straight shutout win.

The two scores made Lewis the AAC's leading scorer with 15 goals on the season.

TWU (8-1-5, 7-1-2 AAC) returns to their home field on Saturday. The team will host Columbia International University in a conference game at 2:30 p.m.
