Late Goal Propels No. 3 Seed Men's Soccer to AAC Semis

ATHENS, Tenn.- The men's soccer team began postseason play on Friday. After everything played within the final Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) standings, the Bulldogs began the conference tournament as the No. 3 seed. One of the perks of being the top seeds is the right to host at their home field and the team served host to the No. 6 seed, the Columbia International University Rams.

In the regular season meeting between the two teams, a goal was scored early in the game and the one-goal advantage was carried throughout the remaining 86 minutes. The postseason meeting saw the opposite. Through 15 combined shot between the two teams in the first half, neither team scored. TWU took eight of the shots.

With this being postseason play, overtime is now in effect and the game seemed to . Another 15 shots occurred in the second half, this time the Bulldogs led with 10. But none of the shots mattered until the 83rd minute. In that moment, Logan Haricombe took a header pass from Wynand Wessels that flew over an opposing defender's head and sent it into the back of the net, giving Tennessee Wesleyan a 1-0 advantage. Like the regular season meeting, the Bulldogs held on to the lead for the remaining time to win the game by a single goal and advance to the semifinals of the tournament.

TWU (10-3-5) will travel for the next round of the tournament. For a chance to play for a tournament title, the Bulldogs will have to best the No. 2 seed in the field, Union College, on Tuesday. Kick off is set for 7:00 p.m.
