No. 2 Men's Tennis Sweeps Johnson

ATHENS, Tenn.- The second-ranked men's tennis team played their first conference game of the season on Thursday. The team went on the road to face the Johnson University Royals.

TWU took the first point of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest, winning the doubles point. 6-0 wins in the No. 2 doubles spot (David Leon and Zolio Rios) and No. 3 doubles spot (Patricio Gallegos and Jhoann Osorio) gave the Bulldogs the point.

The team cruised from there, taking all the singles point to win the match 7-0. Octavio Volpi (No. 1 singles) and Leon (No. 4 singles) won their match with 6-0, 6-0 scores while Gallegos took the No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-0. Rios (No. 3 singles), Maceo Simpson (No. 5 singles), and Benjamin Poblete (No. 6 singles) all won their matches with a 6-1, 6-0 score to give Tennessee Wesleyan all seven points in the match.

The win moved the Bulldogs to 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. The team stays on the road for their next contest, an AAC match against Columbia College on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
