No. 2 Men's Tennis Wins Six Straight Points to Defeat Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, Ky.- The men's tennis team, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, went on the road and picked up an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) win on Thursday. The team got a 6-1 win against the newcomers to the conference, the University of Pikeville Bears.

TWU found themselves in a position they were not that familiar with. Pikeville won two of the three doubles matches to take the doubles point and lead 1-0. Octavio Volpi and German Delcanto won the No. 1 doubles match for the Bulldogs 6-4. 

Tennessee Wesleyan did not lose another match in the contest. 

Volpi won the No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-4, Sabi Roi won the No. 2 singles 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. Delcanto took the No. 3 singles match 6-1, 6-2 to go along with a 7-5, 6-0 win by Patricio Gallegos in the No. 4 singles. Zoilo Rios won the No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-4 and Jesus Fernandez closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 6 single, giving the Bulldogs their 6-1 match win.

TWU (11-1, 5-0 AAC) returns to the court in Athens for their next match on Wednesday. it will be a conference contest against No. 14 Union College beginning at 2:00 p.m.
