No. 2 Men's Tennis Wins Six of Seven Points Against No. 14 Union Commonwealth

ATHENS, Tenn.- The men's tennis team hosted a ranked opponent on Wednesday. The second-ranked Bulldogs faced the No. 14-ranked Union Commonwealth University Bulldogs. 

Tennessee Wesleyan won the doubles point to take the first lead of the contest. Octavio Volpi and German Delcanto won the No. 1 doubles 6-3, David Leon and Zoilo Rios won the No. 2 doubles 7-5, and Agustin Gaia and Gregorio Magnarelli made it a clean sweep in the doubles for the Bulldogs with a 6-2 win in the No. 3 doubles.

TWU won five of the six singles matches on their way to a 6-1 overall match victory. Volpi took the win in the No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-0 while Sabi Roi won the No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-1. Rios was one of the singles point, winning No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-0 and Leon used a 6-1, 6-3 score to win the No. 6 singles. Patricio Gallegos won the No. 4 singles match in due to 1-6, 6-1, 4-1 due to his opponent retiring from the match.

The schedule keeps the Bulldogs (12-1, 5-0 AAC) at home for a non-conference matchup against the University of Montevallo, an NCAA Division II opponent. The match is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
