No. 2 Seed Men's Tennis Moves to Semifinals of NAIA Tournament for Fourth Year in a Row
MOBILE, Ala.- For the fourth consecutive season, the men's tennis team is heading to the semifinals of the NAIA National Tournament. TWU picked up a win in the quarterfinals of the 2024 NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship Tournament on Thursday to make it to the Round of Four at the tournament. The second-seeded Bulldogs faced the No. 10-seeded William Wood University Owls in their quarterfinal match.
On their way to a 4-0 win, the Tennessee Wesleyan won the doubles point. Zoilo Rios and David Leon won the No. 2 doubles 6-4 while Agustin Gaia and Gregorio Magnarelli won the No. 3 doubles 6-3 to give the Bulldogs the doubles point.
The singles point to build the team's 4-0 win came from Octavio Volpi in the No. 1 singles spot in a 6-3, 6-0 win, Patricio Gallegos in the No. 4 singles spot 7-5, 6-2, and Rios in the No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-3.
The win moved TWU (21-1) to the semifinals where they will face the No. 3 seed in the tournament, Keiser University, at 10:00 a.m., on Friday.
