No. 9 Softball Drops Doubleheader Against No. 14 Georgia Gwinnett

Lawrenceville, Ga.- The ninth-ranked softball team went on the road for a doubleheader on Saturday. The team traveled to Georgia to face the 14th-ranked Lady Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett College.

Game One:

The first game of the doubleheader did not go the way TWU had hoped. The offense was held to two hits and was put in a 3-0 hole after the second inning. Georgia Gwinnett scored five runs over the fourth and fifth innings to end the game 8-0 in five innings due to the mercy rule.

Courtney Sneed and Malyssa Jeter had the hits for the team. Cheyenne Strong (three strikeouts) and Emily Tabor spent time on the mound.

Game Two:

Unlike the first game, the Lady Bulldogs put the first runs on the board in the second game. Caroline Moore opened the game with a single, quickly moving to second on a stolen base. Sneed moved Moore to third with a single, moving into scoring position on second base via a stolen base. Hallie DeArman brought both runners in with a single to center field, giving the team a 2-0 lead.

Unfortunately, hits over the remainder of the game by Sneed, and Kaley Bradley did not produce any more runs for Tennessee Wesleyan as Georgia Gwinnett went on to win the second game 7-2.

Madison Stott and Baylie Davis (one strikeout) spent time on the mound for the Lady Bulldogs.

TWU (3-3) will be back in action on Wednesday. The schedule keeps the team on the road for their Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opener against Point University. The doubleheader between the two teams is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
