(RV) Softball Wins Second Game for Split Against Johnson

Game One:

Tennessee Wesleyan did not go scoreless in game one. Even though they picked up a few hits throughout the game, the Lady Bulldogs did not score a run until the sixth inning. Unfortunately, the team was in a three-run hole when the team finally scored.

Emily Mikkola got on base with a walk, moving to second on Malyssa Jeter's single. A sacrifice bunt by Taylor Penning advanced the runners on base but put the team in a perilous position as it was the second out of the inning. Hallie DeArman brought both runners in before the inning ended with a single to left field which resulted in an error, giving Mikkola and Jeter the space need to cut the deficit down to one run.

Johnson added one run in the bottom of the sixth and TWU could not score the needed two runs to extend the game, falling in game one 4-2.

DeArman led the team with two RBIs.  Cheyenne Strong had five strikeouts on the mound.

Game Two:

Similar to the first game, the Lady Bulldogs fell behind early, this time 2-0. Tennessee Wesleyan was able to tie it earlier this go around.

Caroline Moore, Courtney Sneed, and Destiny Painter all used singles to load the bases in the fourth inning. A fielder's choice on Jeter's at-bat brought Moore across home plate but forced Painter out at second. Mikkola brought the tying run in with her single scoring Sneed. A four-run sixth inning gave the Lady Bulldogs the lead.

Painter singled up the middle and moved to third on an error caused by Jeter's at-bat. Penning singled to right field, giving Painter an easy path to home plate to break the tie. An error on the throw to try to prevent Penning from stealing second allowed pinch runner Emma Clevinger to score, making the lead two runs. DeArman was responsible for the final two runs of the four-run sixth, belting a home run for two RBIs and giving the team a 6-2 score they went on to win by to earn the split.

DeArman led with two RBIs in the game while Jeter, Mikkola, and Penning each added one run. Madison Stott had eight strikeouts in the complete-game effort.

TWU (10-7, 6-2 AAC) returns to the field on Monday at Athens Regional Park. The team will host #23 Truett McConnell University in a conference doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
