Dayton, Tenn.- The softball team, receiving votes in the NAIA poll, went on the road for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) doubleheader on Thursday. The doubleheader was against rivals, the Bryan College Lady Lions.

Game One:

The first lead of the game went toward Bryan's score. TWU took over the lead in the second inning.

Taylor Penning opened the second inning with a walk, moving to second on a Malyssa Jeter ground out. Hallie DeArman's single moved Penning to third and Penning went on to score on a Loryn Sherwood error. The bases became loaded on a Mackenzie Baldwin single. A fielder's choice kept the bases loaded but forced DeArman out at home. Courtney Sneed forced another error that Sherwood and Baldwin were able to score on, giving the team a 3-1 lead at the end of the inning.

In the fourth inning, the lead grew for the Lady Bulldogs. With the bases loaded as Baldwin, Caroline Moore, and Destiny Painter stood on, Emily Mikkola hit a single that gave Baldwin and Moore the space to score, extending the lead to 5-1 after four innings. A sacrifice fly by Penning in the seventh inning, scoring Painter gave the team the 6-1 score they went on to win game one by.

Sneed and Mikkola led the team with two RBIS in the game. Madison Stott pitched five innings in the win, while Cheyenne Strong pitched two innings of relief.

Game Two:

The second game of the doubleheader was showcased by pitching and defense as only one run was scored in the game. The run came in the fifth inning.

Sherwood opened the fifth inning with a double. Emma Clevinger came in to pitch run, moving to third on a Sneed ground out. Clevinger became the only run of the game on Baldwin's RBI single, giving Tennessee Wesleyan a 1-0 lead. Baylie Davis, who picked up the pitching win, and Strong, who was credited with a save, kept the goose egg intact the entire game, giving the team the 1-0 win.

Davis finished with four strikeouts in the win while Strong had three strikeouts.

Up next for the Lady Bulldogs (13-8, 9-3 AAC) is a road trip to St. Andrews University. The conference doubleheader is set for Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
