Softball Falls on Senior Day Against No. 3 Cumberlands

Athens, Tenn.- The softball team played were at home for their game of the season on Wednesday. The game at Athens Regional Park against the No. 3 University of the Cumberlands Lady Patriots was the team's Senior Day. TWU honored their eight seniors before the single game between the two teams.

Through five innings, the game was in a 1-1 tie. The opponents took the first lead of the game in the first inning. The second inning saw the Lady Bulldogs respond with a run of their own.

Courtney Sneed reached first on a fielder's choice. A double to center field moved Sneed to third as Malyssa Jeter stood on second after the hit. Loryn Sherwood brought the tie on the scoreboard with her sacrifice fly giving Sneed the space to score and tie the game 1-1.

Disaster appeared in the sixth inning as the opponents scored two runs to move ahead 3-1. Tennessee Wesleyan was not able to tun their baserunners into runs in the remaining at-bats, falling to the third-ranked Lady Patriots by the 3-1 score.

Cheyenne Strong and Baylie Davis each had two strikeouts in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs. 

Up next for TWU (23-15) is the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament set for April 26-29 at Brickyard Ballparks in Kingsport, Tenn. The team will face the No. 5 seed Point University on Wednesday in the double elimination tournament at 11:00 a.m.
