Softball Season Ends in NAIA Opening Round

Indianapolis, Ind.- The softball team returned to the field on Tuesday. The No. 4 seed played in an elimination game against the second seed in the Indianapolis Bracket of the 2023 NAIA softball Opening Round. The second seed in the bracket was the Middle Georgia State College Lady Knights.

Early in the game, Courtney Sneed, Loryn Sherwood, Mackenzie Baldwin, Caroline Moore, and Destiny Painter reached base. The team was left without runs though as the batters were left stranded on base. In the third inning, the game changed. Middle Georgia took the lead, leading 4-0 at the end of the inning. TWU had a few more hits in the game, as Baldwin, Emily Mikkola, and Malyssa Jeter all recorded hits. The hits did not turn into runs unfortunately, and the team went on to fall by a score of 5-0, ending the team's run in the NAIA Opening Run.

Cheyenne Strong had five strikeouts on the mound while Baylie Davis and Emilee Tabor each pitched in relief.

The team finishes the season with 27 wins, the sixth consecutive season the team has won 20 or more games in a season. The team won the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament Title for the second straight year and made the NAIA Opening Round for the second year in a row.
