Softball Concludes Season at NAIA Opening Round

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.- The softball returned to the field at the NAIA Softball Championship Opening Round on Tuesday. The team, the fourth seed in the Williamsburg Bracket, found themselves in a win or go home situation as they faced the No.  3 seed in the bracket, the College of Coastal Georgia Lady Mariners, in an elimination game.

Macy Chastain opened the game with a walk and moved to second on a Taylor Penning sacrifice bunt. A ground out by Bailee Phillips moved Chastain closer to home plate at third. A single up the middle by Courtney Sneed gave the Lady Bulldogs the first lead of the game, a 1-0 lead as Chastain scored from third. TWU held the 1-0 lead as the second inning changed the game.

In the second inning, Coastal Georgia scored seven runs to take a 7-1 lead. Carlynn Atamaniuk, Kaley Bradley, and Sneed all recorded hits through the remainder of the game, but the team was unable to put more runs up on the board, falling in the elimination game 7-1.

The team ends the season with a 27-15 overall record. The team also finished as the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament Runner-Ups to play in their third consecutive NAIA Softball Opening Round.
