Women's Basketball Ends Season at AAC Tournament Quarterfinals

KINGSPORT, Tenn.- The women's basketball team was back in action on Thursday at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament. The team faced the No. 2 seed in the quarterfinals, Reinhardt University.

The game did not start how the Lady Bulldogs had envisioned. Reinhardt scored the first 11 points of the game as the offense went through a cold spell. Jacelyn Stone got the team on the board with a pair of free throws making the score 11-2. The first quarter ended with Reinhardt leading 14-2.

Jaci Powell scored the first basket of the second quarter, a three-pointer. Anna Crowder hit a pair of free throws and a layup to bring the score to 17-9 and Cambree Mayo made the score 19-11 with her layup. A small run at the end of the second quarter saw Abbey Barr, Ashley Baxter, and Stone score to make the score 32-17 at the halftime break.

Stone and Mayo scored back-to-back buckets out of the halftime break, making the scoreboard read 33-21. Even though the score looked bleak, the team continued to battle, cutting the lead down to nine points with 1:56 left in the third quarter. Scores from Mayo, Stone, Ella Crowder, and Mikalee Martin helped TWU push the score to 41-32. Reinhardt went into the final quarter leading 43-32.

A. Crowder made the score 45-35 with her layup and free throw as 8:43 ticked on the clock. Unfortunately, the team was not able to pull much closer and Reinhardt went on to win the game by a final score of 56-42.

Tennessee Wesleyan ends the season with a 13-13 record.
