Bio

David McGowan is set to begin his second season as an assistant coach for the men's and women's bowling teams in 2023-24.

The United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Silver Coach joins TWU with 21 years of coaching experience. McGowan brings a wealth of experience from the high school level, where he won multiple Division I and Division II Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) State Team Championships. McGowan won those state championships during his time at Hixson High School and Girls Preparatory School.

Along with the team titles, McGowan coached multiple female student-athletes at Girls Preparatory to Division II TSSAA Individual State Titles. McGowan also coached as a private instructor, coaching numerous players who have won individual state titles.

McGowan has taken home multiple coaching awards as well. In 2006, McGowan was named the TSSAA State Coach of the Year for both boys and girls bowling. In 2015, not only was McGowan named TSSAA State Coach of the Year for girls bowling, he was named National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) South Section Coach of the Year and was a finalist for NFHS National Coach of the Year. McGowan has been named to the Chattanooga Area USBC Hall of Fame for Performance.

The lifelong resident of Chattanooga is an IBPSIA Certified Ball Driller and Kegel Trained Lane Machine Operator. His wife Candi is also a decorated bowler and the couple has two children, Cindy and Eric. Cindy was a member of the University of Tennessee Southern's (then Martin Methodist College) inaugural bowling team, helping the program reach nationals two times and finishing with a 5-6 record in the national singles championships. Eric is an independent professional bowler around the south.
