Women's Lacrosse Blows By St. Andrews For First Win

Athens, Tenn.- The women's lacrosse team returned to the field at the TWU Athletic Complex on Saturday. The team hosted the St. Andrew University Lady Knights in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game.

At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs held a 3-1 advantage. After St. Andrews scored the first goal, Olivia Ritter score two consecutive goals for the team, one on an Annalise Vigilante assist. Olivia Downey scored the third goal of the quarter on a Ritter assist to give the team the two-goal lead.

The opponents opened the second quarter with a goal to cut the lead down to one goal. Downey moved the lead back out to two goals and Mac Alexander made the score 5-2. St. Andrews scored for the final time in the contest with 7:35 left in the second quarter. The remaining time in the first half saw Olivia Akers and Vigilante score, making the score 7-3 at the break

In the third quarter, the scoring for TWU was started by Vigilante, her second goal of the contest. Akers also scored her second goal of the contest, moving the score to 9-3. The team moved the score into double digits on Jozlyn Long's goal and the lead became eight goals on a Savannah Stull goal. Vigilante scored for a third time in the game and Hannah Housley made the score 13-3 at the end of the third quarter.

Downey got back in on the scoring action to open the fourth quarter, taking a pass from Ritter and slinging past the opposing keeper. Ritter also returned to the scoring, putting Alexander's pass into the net to make the score 15-3. Long and Housley both scored for a second time in the game, and Sarah Lynn Northrop ended the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs, making the final score 18-3.

Ritter, Vigilante, and Downey each had three goals in the win. Ritter aided with three assists. Rylee Brendlinger had 11 saves. This marks the first win under head coach Heather Faasse.

Tennessee Wesleyan (1-7, 1-2 AAC) will be back in action on Saturday when the team travels to face No. 2 Reinhardt University. The game in Waleska, Ga., is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
