Women's Lacrosse Wins First Game of Season Against Warren Wilson

SWANNANOA, N.C.- The women's lacrosse team went on the road for the first time in the 2024 season on Tuesday. The team traveled to face the Warren Wilson College Lady Owls, an NCAA Division III opponent. 

After exchanging the first four goals with each other, the Lady Bulldogs went on a scoring spree. Kylie Heinrich and Olivia Downey scored the first two goals for TWU to make the score 4-4 at the ten-minute mark. Heinrich broke the tie and set the team on a five-goal streak. Jozlyn Long scored the next three goals, giving the team a 6-2 lead at the end of the first period.

Camille Crisp opened the scoring in the second period, moving the team's lead to five goals. Moments after a Warren Wilson goal, Hannah O'Daniel got on the board with a goal, making the score 8-3. Kaelyn Mays and Downey scored back-to-back goals, and a goal by Crisp near the end of the second quarter made the score 11-5.

The first two goals of the second half went for the Lady Bulldogs. Mays scored the first of the two goals, moving the lead to seven goals. Cydnie Helton scored the second goal, making the score 13-5. Warren Wilson scored the final two goals of the third quarter to cut the lead down to six goals.

The team scored five more goals in the game. The first goal of the fourth quarter from the team came from Long, giving the team 14 goals. The 15th goal of the contest came from Crisp while Olivia Galberaith scored goal No. 16. Long and Downey ended the scoring for the team, helping TWU win the game 18-10 for their first win of the season.

Long led the team with five goals in the game while Crisp and Downey both had three goals in the game. Rylee Brendlinger had 10 saves in the net. 

The schedule brings the Lady Bulldogs (1-1) back to their home field for a game on Saturday. The team will host Concordia University (MI) at the TWU Athletic Complex at 2:00 p.m.
