Women's Lacrosse Comeback Attempt Falls Short Against Concordia

ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's lacrosse team returned to the TWU Athletic Complex on Saturday after picking up their first win of the season. The team was looking to get their second win of the season against the Concordia University Lady Cardinals.

It was a tough first quarter for the team as Concordia opened the game with five consecutive goals. Kaelyn Mays broke the cold spell for the Lady Bulldogs with her goal, making the score 5-1 after the first quarter.

Olivia Downey continued the scoring for TWU, cutting the lead down to three goals as the scoreboard read 5-2. The opponents recorded the next three goals to make the hole the Lady Bulldogs faced bigger. Jozlyn Long scored on a free position shot and Mays scored agains with 21 seconds to make the score 8-4 at the halftime break.

Like the second quarter, Downey scored again to open the third quarter, cutting the deficit down to three goals. The team could not keep the momentum though as Concordia scored three goals to end the third quarter, moving their advantage to 11-5.

The fourth quarter saw the Tennessee Wesleyan outscore the opponents. Unfortunately, it was not enough to bring the team back into control of the lead as the team scored four goals in the quarter. Kylie Heinrich had the first goal for the team while Long scored the next two. Kate Buchannan scored the final goal of the game, making score 14-9 in favor of the opponents.

Long led the Lady Bulldogs with three goals in the game.

Up next for TWU (1-2) is a neutral site game against NCAA Division III opponent Alma College in Chattanooga, Tenn. The game will be played at Girls Preparatory School and is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
