Women's Lacrosse Battles Against Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla.- The women's lacrosse finished a trip to Florida with a game against the Warner University Lady Lions on Saturday. It was the team's second game in a row on the road.

Tennessee Wesleyan raced out to a 3-0 lead through the first four minutes of the game. Stephanie Rocha scored the first goal of the game 51 seconds into the contest. Kate Buchannan had the second goal that made the score 2-0. Jozlyn Long made the score 3-0 with her goal. The lead did not last for the team though as Warner scored four consecutive goals to take a 4-3 lead. Kaelyn Mays scored on a free position shot before the end of the quarter to tie the game 4-4 to begin the second quarter.

The offense went through a cold spell in the second quarter as they were held scoreless. Warner scored three times in the second quarter to take a 7-4 lead into the halftime break.

In the third quarter, the attack got going again for the Lady Bulldogs. Rocha scored two consecutive goals to pull the team within one goal of the lead. The low-scoring third quarter saw one more goal occur, this one by Warner, which gave them an 8-6 lead to begin the final quarter.

The opponents grew the lead in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter with a goal making the score 9-6. Olivia Downey scored two goals with a goal by Warner sandwiched between, keeping the team within range of the lead by a two-goal deficit with the score being 10-8. The team was unable to pull closer though as Warner scored three goals over the remaining time to win the game 13-8.

Rocha's three goals were a career-high. Rylee Brendlinger finished with 11 saves in the net.

Tennessee Wesleyan (1-5) will head north for their next road trip as they travel to play their first Appalachian Athletic Conference game of the season against Georgetown College. The game is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
