Women's Soccer Defeats Georgetown for First Win of Season

Georgetown, Ky.- The women's soccer team returned to the field on Tuesday. The team went on the road to take on the Georgetown College Lady Tigers in their final non-conference game of the regular season.

The offense was not able to get much going in the first half as they were held to just two shots in the first 45 minutes of the game. Both shots came early on and were taken by Krista Eik Hardardottir, both of which ended up being saved by the opposing keeper. The defense of the Lady Bulldogs kept the game in a tie though, not allowing a shot to go through the net to make the score 0-0 at the halftime break.

The second half was a different story. A little over five minutes into the half, TWU scored their first goal. Mackenzie Gillis scored off a deflected save by the Georgetown keeper on Hardardottir's shot, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Laia Roch Font and the Tennessee Wesleyan fended off four shot attempts by the Lady Tigers to keep their lead intact over the next few minutes. In the 66th minute, the Lady Bulldogs added another goal to their score, moving ahead 2-0 when Hardardottir scored. With ten minutes left in the game, Georgetown was able to sneak a goal in, but could not find a game-tying goal, giving TWU the 2-1 win.

This was the team's first win of the season.

Up next for the Lady Bulldogs (1-2) is their conference opener against Milligan University. Game time is set for Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
