Women's Soccer Loses Heartbreaker to #20 Truett McConnell

Athens, Tenn.- The women's soccer team hosted a ranked team on Homecoming. The 20th-ranked Truett McConnell University Lady Bears visited Athens on Saturday for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game.

The first half saw four goals scored. The first goal came off the foot of Krista Eik Hardardottir, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 1-0 lead over the ranked opponent. The advantage for TWU grew to two goals when Hardardottir assisted Cristina Escrig on a goal, making the lead 2-0. Unfortunately for the Lady Bulldogs, Truett McConnell scored the next two goals, and the game between the conference rivals went into the halftime break tied 2-2.

The tie was broken in the 69th minute of the game, 14 minutes into the second half. Maggie Aird drew a foul in the box, forcing a penalty kick for Tennessee Wesleyan. Hardardottir stepped into the box and blasted the ball into the net, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 3-2 advantage. Disaster struck in the 80th minute. The opponents scored two back-to-back goals to move ahead 4-3 with ten minutes left to play. TWU was not able to find a tying or winning goal within the remaining time, going on to fall 4-3.

Laia Roch Font had nine saves in the game.

The loss moved the team's record to 7-4 overall and 6-2 in the AAC.
