Women's Soccer Falls to No. 22 Truett McConnell

CLEVELAND, Ga.- The women's soccer team was back on the road on Saturday for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game. The team also faced their first ranked opponent of the season when they played the No. 22 Truett McConnell University Lady Bears.

In the first half, the scoreboard operator only had to worry about stopping the clock as neither team put a goal on the scoreboard. Krista Eik Hardardottir came close in the 35th minute but her shot was saved by the opposing goalkeeper. Jordan Smith also had a chance but her attempt at a goal went just wide of the goal. The defense and goalkeeper Laia Roch Font defended the opportunities Truett McConnell had to keep the game in a scoreless tie at the halftime break.

Out of the halftime break, Hardardottir had another scoring attempt that was stopped at the last second by a Truett McConnell defender. Malene Duus also stopped a goal from occurring by the opponents moments later. The scoreless tie changed into a one-goal advantage for the opponents in the 74th minute though and into a two-goal advantage three minutes later. Shot attempts by Hardardottir, Alexandra Machado, and Addison Smith did not find their mark, and the Lady Bulldogs went on to fall for the first time this season by a final score of 2-0.

Roch Font had five saves in the net.

TWU (3-1-1) stays on the road for their next game as they travel to face Kentucky Christian University on Wednesday. The conference game is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
