Women's Soccer Takes Out Lady Bears

ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's soccer team continued their winning ways on Wednesday. After playing to a one-goal win in their past Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest, the team won by a more comfortable margin against the newcomers to the conference, the University of Pikeville Lady Bears.

Cristina Escrig put the Lady Bulldogs on the scoreboard in the seventh minute of the game. The striker turned a pass from Anna-Lena Strauss and Jamie York into a 1-0 lead. As the team continued to control the game, outshooting their opponent 16-0 in the first half, the next goal of the contest occurred in the 33rd minute. Annabel Cuthbert was the scorer this time, scoring off a Maggie Aird and Lauryn Smith assist, giving the team a 2-0 lead they took into the halftime break.

In the second half, Lauryn Martel found the AAC's leading scorer, Krista Eik Hardardottir, for a goal six minutes into the resumption of play. Five minutes later in the 56th minute, Natascha Frei joined the scoring ranks, taking a pass from Escrig into the fourth goal of the game. The team added one more goal in the contest. It happened in the 67th minute when Hardardottir scored her second goal of the game, making the score 5-1. The final score remained the same at the final buzzer.

TWU outshot Pikeville 33-1 in the game. Laia Roch Font got the win in the net.

The schedule returns the Lady Bulldogs (10-1-1, 9-1 AAC) to the TWU Athletic Complex in a week when the team hosts Union College on Wednesday. The game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
