WALESKA, Ga.- The women's soccer played their final road game of the regular season on Wednesday. The implications for the game were big as second place in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) was on the line. Trying to prevent the Lady Bulldogs from taking the second spot in the standings was the (RV) Reinhardt University Lady Eagles.
The first lead of the game went to Reinhardt as they scored 2:22 into the game. Just as it seemed as if TWU was not going to find an equalizer in the first half, things changed in the 40th minute. In that moment, Anna-Lena Strauss scored off a Cristina Escrig assist, sending the game into the halftime break in a 1-1 tie.
The tie was broken in the 57th minute. Addison Smith broke the tie with her goal, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 2-1 advantage. The lead stuck for Tennessee Wesleyan as the defense and goalkeeper Laia Roch Font kept seven shots by Reinhardt out of the net, preserving the 2-1 lead into a win and propelling the Lady Bulldogs into second place in the AAC standings.
TWU (13-1-1, 12-1 AAC) will look to clinch the second spot in the standings on Saturday at Senior Day. The team will host St. Andrews University for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
