ATHENS, Tenn.- The top two teams in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) women's soccer preseason poll met on the field on Saturday. The women's soccer team hosted the No. 21 ranked Truett McConnell University Lady Bears at the TWU Athletic Complex.
Tennessee Wesleyan got on the board first. After a missed penalty kick, Krista Eik Hardardottir hit the ricochet off the goalkeeper's save back into the net to give the Lady Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute. In the 36th minute, Hardardottir scored again. This time, the forward scored on a string of passes from Addison Smith and Laura Nünning to give the team a 2-0 lead. Truett McConnell scored before the end of the first half to make the score 2-1.
The score remained 2-1 until the 75th minute. The visitors scored on a penalty kick, tying the score 2-2. Neither team was able to find a go-ahead goal in the remaining time, ending the game in a draw.
The tie moves TWU's record to 1-1-2 overall and 1-0-2 in the AAC. The next game for the team is set for Wednesday against Kentucky Christian University. The home game is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
