Women's Tennis Finishes as Runner-ups at AAC Tournament

Chattanooga, Tenn.- The women's tennis team competed for a conference championship over the weekend. The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Tennis Championship Tournament took place in Chattanooga over the weekend.

Opening Round:

In the opening round, the top-seeded Lady Bulldogs faced the No. 8 seed, Johnson University. The doubles point went to TWU, giving them a 1-0 lead at the start of singles. Olivia Alcala, Josefa Fernandez, Natacha Perez, and Mercedes Chasset all won their singles matches, advancing the team to the next round with a 4-0 win (two players finished their match at the same time). Every singles win was won 6-0, 6-0.

Semifinals:

Like their opening round contest, the Lady Bulldogs took the doubles point against No. 4 seed Brenau University, giving the team a 1-0 lead. In the singles, Alcala, Perez, and Chassett won their singles matches to advance the team to the finals.

Finals:

In the finals, the team faced the No. 2 seed in the tournament, Union College. Unfortunately, the match did not go the way the Lady Bulldogs had wanted. Union took the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead into the singles. Even though the team battled, the opponents went on to the singles points need to clinch the match, winning 4-0.

This is the second consecutive season the women's tennis team has finished as runner-ups at the AAC Tournament.

The team will wait to find out if they receive an at-large bid and their seed in the NAIA National Tournament on Tuesday, May 2.
