No. 6 Women's Tennis Clinch AAC Regular Season Title

ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's tennis team, ranked No. 6 in the NAIA, played their last home match of the 2024 season on Wednesday. The team entered the match having already guaranteed themselves a share of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Regular Season Title. A win against the No. 23 Reinhardt University Lady Eagles would give the Lady Bulldogs the title outright and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming tournament.

The doubles point went to Tennessee Wesleyan. Olivia Alcala and Laia Berne took the No. 1 doubles match 6-2 and Astrid Staksrud and Ivet Prat won the No. 3 singles 6-2 to give the team the doubles point.

TWU added four more points to their score before the weather affected the match. Alcala got a second win, winning the No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-2. Josefa Fernandez won the No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-0 while Berne won the No. 3 singles match 6-1, 6-1. As the No. 4 singles match ended, which saw Mercedes Chasset win 6-1, 6-1, the contest was stopped due to weather. With their 5-0 lead intact, the Lady Bulldogs were declared the winners.

The win gave Tennessee Wesleyan (14-3, 9-0 AAC) their second consecutive AAC Regular Season Title, the third regular season title in program history.

The AAC Tournament is set to begin on Thursday, April 12. The team will be the No. 1 seed in the tournament and face No. 8 seed Truett McConnell University in their opening match at 9:00 a.m.
