Women's Tennis Season Ends in Heartbreaker at NAIA Tournament
MOBILE, Ala.- The women's tennis team returned to the courts at the 2024 NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship on Thursday. The sixth-seeded Lady Bulldogs were playing in the quarterfinals as they faced the No. 3 seed Lindsey Wilson College Lady Blue Raiders for a trip to the semifinals.
The team went down in the match early. Lindsey Wilson won the doubles point to put Tennessee Wesleyan in a 1-0 hole.
The match remained tight like their match from the day before. The battle between the two teams manifested into a 3-3 tie as the teams fought for the deciding point. Olivia Alcala (6-3, 6-1; No. 1 singles) Laia Berne (6-3, 6-4; No. 3 singles), and Raquel Canadas (6-2, 3-6, 7-5; No. 6 singles) won their matches to put the quarterfinal match into a 3-3 tie. Unfortunately, the opponents scored the final point to won the contest 4-3, ending the Lady Bulldogs' season.
The team finishes the season with 18 wins, the most wins in a season in program history. The team also won the program's first Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament Title.
