Outdoor Track and Field Programs Conclude Season with Two All-Americans

Marion, Ind.- The men's and women's outdoor track and field teams ended the 2023 season at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet was held at the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind. 

Between the two teams, the programs sent 12 student-athletes to compete in five different events: Three relays (Men's 4x100m Relay, Men's 4x400m Relay, and Women's 4x100m Relay), Men's and Women's Triple Jump, Men's and Women's Long Jump.

Relays:

The women's 4x100m Relay team of Akia Jean-Pierre, Chaggie Bassar, Lauren Garrison, and Aniecis Goss were the first of the relays to go. The team ran the relay in a time of 48.22 seconds to finish 25th overall in the event. 

The men's 4x100m Relay team was the next to go. The team of Chris Harper, Cameron Williams, Jeremiah Jones, and Ke'Andrae Campbell ran the event in a time of 41.80 to place them in 35th place. 

The men's 4x400m Relay team concluded the relay teams for TWU. Williams, Shuler, Campbell, and Roni Bailey combined to run the four laps around the track in a time of 3:18.55, placing them in 15th place. 

All-Americans:

In the jump events the programs had student-athletes qualify for, the teams saw an All-American in one of the jump events. To earn All-American honors, the competitors must finish in the top eight of the event. 

Goss was an All-American in the women's Long Jump. In doing so, Goss made history. A mark of 5.68m gave Goss sixth place in the event to cement the All-American honors. With the All-American honors completed, Goss became only the second women's outdoor horizontal jumper to earn All-American honors.

Shuler also made history in the men's Triple Jump when he earned All-American honors. Shuler became the first men's triple jumper in school history to hit 15.00m and go over when he hit a mark of 15.13m to place him in fourth place in the event. Along with setting a school record in the event, Shuler became the first men's outdoor horizontal jumper to earn All-American honors. 

Goss finished 28th in the women's Triple Jump with a mark of 11.12m while Shuler finished 20th in the men's Long Jump with a mark of 6.74m.
