Women's Volleyball Unable to Tame Lady Lions

Dayton, Tenn.- After five consecutive home matches, the women's volleyball team went on the road on Tuesday. The team made the short trip to face Appalachian Athletic Conference rival, the Bryan College Lady Lions.

Tennessee Wesleyan got first serve in the first set, scoring on a Madison Coffey service ace to take a 1-0 lead. Bryan took control of the set though, scoring six of the next seven points to hold a 6-2 advantage. The opponents grew their lead to 11-5 as the Lady Bulldogs tried to find rhythm in their offense. The team was not able to find their groove though, going on to fall 25-12 in the first set.

Bryan opened the second set with three straight points. A kill by Amya Sutton helped the team cut the deficit to one point, but the opponents kept their lead, eventually moving ahead 12-6. TWU went on a scoring streak though, blasting 10 of the next 12 points in their favor to take a 16-14 lead. Points during the run came from the combo of Coffey, Kamari Jackson, and Sutton. Unfortunately, the Lady Lions made a run of their own, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs to win the second set 25-19.

A kill by Megan Lee put the third set in a 1-1 tie early on. The offense for Tennessee Wesleyan went cold over the next few minutes and Bryan was able to pull ahead by double digits. The team could overcome the deficit, dropping the third set by a score of 25-10 to give Bryan the 3-0 match win.

Coffey led the offense with six kills while Sydney Allen aided with 11 assists. Coffey also led with 21 digs for the Lady Bulldogs.

The road trip continues for TWU (1-9, 0-2 AAC) as they travel to Georgia for a match against Brenau University on Friday. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
