Volleyball Drops Match Against Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, Ky.- The volleyball team traveled to Kentucky for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) match on Tuesday. The team fell in the match 3-1 to the University of Pikeville Lady Bears.

In the first set, Pikeville took an early lead and eventually turned their lead into a 25-15 first-set win. However, the Lady Bulldogs responded strongly in the second set.

Behind powerful kills from Janie Merritt, Olivia Miller, and Shante Smith, Tennessee Wesleyan stormed out to a commanding 19-9 lead. Strong defensive plays, including key blocks from Jia Weathersby, frustrated Pikeville's offense, allowing TWU to close out the set with ease.

The third and fourth sets were highly competitive, with Tennessee Wesleyan pushing Pikeville to the brink. Amya Sutton and Merritt continued to shine at the net, while Alley Hibdon set up crucial points. However, Pikeville edged out both sets 25-21 to win the match 3-1.

Sutton led the offense with 11 kills while Hibdon had a career-high 29 assists.

TWU (6-11, 3-4 AAC) returns to their home floor on Friday for a conference match against Reinhardt University. The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
