Volleyball Downs Montreat with Sweep

ATHENS, Tenn.- The volleyball team ended the weekend with an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) win on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs beat the Montreat College Lady Cavaliers 3-0.

Tennessee Wesleyan took off running and never looked back in the first set, scoring 10 straight points to take a 10-1 lead. Another rally of seven straight points, which included kills by Savannah Jones and Ella Brannan, helped the Lady Bulldogs move their lead to 17-2.  Gracelyn Jackson's service ace along with kills by Nyah Hudson, Amya Sutton, and Bailey Dalton helped the team win the first set with a dominant 25-5 score.

The fire in the first set was put out in the second set though, as Montreat scored 12 of the first 15 points to lead 12-3. Tennessee Wesleyan did not let the deficit rattle them. The Lady Bulldogs battled back, tying the set at 22 points each. After Montreat broke the tie, kills by Alley Hibdon and Sutton helped the team to three straight points and a 25-23 second set win.

TWU had to rally in the third set also. The opponents broke a 4-4 tie and turned it into a 12-6 lead. The Lady Bulldogs kept clawing back though, tying the match 17-17 before scoring five straight points to lead 22-17. Hudson's final knockdown gave Tennessee Wesleyan a 25-19 third set win and a 3-0 sweep.

Hudson led the offense with 12 kills while Sutton added nine kills. Hibdon had 24 assists in the win.

Up next for the Lady Bulldogs (13-6, 5-2 AAC) is a road trip to Johnson University on Tuesday. The conference match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
