Women's Tennis Advances to AAC Championship Match

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- The women's tennis team, the No. 1 seed in the 2024 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Tennis Championship Tournament, returned to the courts at the tournament on Friday. After winning their opening round contest in the quarterfinals, the team played for a chance to go to the championship game in the semifinals against the fourth-seeded SCAD Atlanta Lady Bees.

The tournament match was played first to clinch, meaning the first team to four points won the match.

The opening point went to the Lady Bulldogs. Olivia Alcala and Laia Berne won the No. 1 doubles match 6-4 while Astrid Staksrud and Ivet Prat were the winners of the No. 3 doubles match 6-0.

Alcala, Berne, and Prat all won singles matches to give the team the 4-0 win. Alcala, in the No. 1 singles, and Berne, in the No. 3 three singles, won their matches with 6-3, 6-3 scores. Prat was leading the No. 5 singles match by a score of 6-0, 3-0 before her opponent retired the match, clinching a trip to the conference championship match for the second conescutive season.

The win moved the team's record to 16-3 overall. The championship match will be played on Saturday and the team will face the No. 2 seeded Union College at 10:00 a.m.
