Bio

Dr. Stacy Swafford begins her sixth year as Faculty Athletic Representative for the athletic department in the 2023-2024 season. Swafford is an associate professor of Business Administration and chair of the Goodfriend School of Business at TWU. 

Swafford is a native of Harriman, Tennessee. After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University in 1991 with a double major in chemistry and biology, she began her career as an analytical chemist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. After working at both the National Lab and the Y-12 plant, she relocated to Cleveland, Tenn. She received her Master’s in Business Administration from UT-Chattanooga in 1998, and she then worked in the healthcare and financial sectors.  During her time working at a local bank, she began teaching in an adjunct capacity for then-Tennessee Wesleyan College's Business Administration Department.

In August of 2010, Swafford became a full-time faculty member in the department, where she teaches primarily management and marketing courses. She is also the Cleveland director of the college’s Management Excellence degree completion program.  She is a former faculty sponsor for the college’s Phi Beta Lambda chapter, and she serves as a faculty marshal.  In 2015, she was awarded the Lockmiller Teacher of the Year Award at the spring honors convocation. Swafford completed her Ph.D., in Learning and Leadership at UT-Chattanooga. Swafford was named the 2022-23 Appalachian Athletic Conference Dr. Larry Inkster Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) of the Year, making her only the second FAR to win the award from Tennessee Wesleyan. 

Swafford is a native of Harriman, Tennessee. Swafford currently resides in Cleveland, Tenn., with her husband Kevin and has two kids, Isabel and Charlie.
