Kelley Seekins begins her 13th season at Tennessee Wesleyan University in 2022-2023, her 12th as the Head Athletic Trainer. Seekins joined the Tennessee Wesleyan University Athletic Training staff in the summer of 2012 and moved into the role of Head Athletic Trainer in the summer of 2013. Seekins was later named the Director of Sports Medicine, as the Sports Medicine staff has grown over recent years. Seekins was named the Senior Woman Leader in 2023 for the Athletic Department. She is also an adjunct professor in the Health and Human Performance Department at TWU, teaching in both the undergraduate and graduate level programs.
A native of Western New York, Seekins received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Canisius College in 2009, with a minor in Health and Human Performance, and was an All-College Honors graduate. During her time at Canisius, she served as a student athletic trainer with a variety of Griffs teams. She also worked with the University at Buffalo football team and attended the International Bowl with the team during the 2008 season. In the spring and summer of 2010, Seekins was an intern with the UB football team.
In 2012, Seekins received her Master’s of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Kentucky. During her time at UK, she was a graduate assistant Athletic Trainer at Asbury University. While pursuing her Master’s degree, Seekins focused her research on SLAP lesions and conservative rehabilitation protocols. Her graduate research was recently published. In 2019, she obtained her MS in Sports Administration from Canisius College.
Seekins was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Athletic Trainer of the Year for the 2018-2019 season and won the award for a second time in the 2022-23 season. She was awarded the Tennessee Athletic Trainers’ Association “Eugene Smith/Mickey O’Brien College Athletic Trainer of the Year” award in 2024.
Seekins is a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA) and a licensed Athletic Trainer in the state of Tennessee. Seekins currently serves as the AAC Representative for the NAIA-ATA Board and as the AAC SWL Representative.
