No. 2 Baseball Drops Non-conference Game to No. 19 Bryan

Athens, Tenn.- The baseball diamond at Athens Insurance Stadium saw two teams take the field on Wednesday. The home team, the second-ranked baseball team from TWU, took on the 19th-ranked Bryan College Lions. The conference rivals played the game as a non-conference game.

The game did not start well for the Bulldogs as Bryan took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The bottom of the third saw Tennessee Wesleyan take one of the runs back.

Evan Magill opened the inning with a single to center field, moving to second on a wild pitch. After a Parker Stinnett walk, each base runner advanced a base on a Carson Ford sacrifice hit. A second consecutive sacrifice hit occurred in the inning, this time a sacrifice fly by Dan Sayre as Magill crossed home plate after the ball had been caught, making the score 1-0.

TWU tied the score in the fifth inning. The inning looked like it was going to end before it even started as the first two outs were recorded, with the second out coming on a Ford fielder's choice. Sayre singled to left field to put Ford in scoring position at second base. Cayle Webster hit a single to center field and Ford's swift feet got him to home plate to cut the Bryan lead to one run, and Sayre ended up on third. Sayre took advantage of a pick-off attempt at first base and stole home to even the score 3-3.

The tie was broken in the sixth inning as Bryan scored three runs to take a 6-3 lead. In the seventh inning, the Bulldogs scored one run to cut the lead down to two runs, a Sayre run on a Cody McGill double. The team could not complete the comeback though, falling to the visitors by a final score of 6-4.

Sayre, Webster, and McGill all finished with an RBI in the game. Jake Sergent led the team with five strikeouts from the mound in the game.

The loss moved the team's record to 20-4 overall.
