Black Mountain, N.C.- The No. 3 baseball team went on the road for their second to last Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series. The schedule took the team to the home of the Montreat College Cavaliers.
TWU was put in a hole early in the game that kept getting bigger and bigger. Through five innings, the opponents held a 5-0 advantage. Montreat scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to move their lead to 9-0. Solo home runs by Carson Ford, Marco Martinez, and Cayle Webster were not enough to spark the offense to a comeback, falling in the first game of the series 9-3.
Gage Vailes had nine strikeouts on the mound for the Bulldogs. Alex Wize and Ayden Mansfield also spent time on the mound.
Tennessee Wesleyan (35-7, 24-1 AAC) closes out the series against Montreat with a doubleheader on Friday. The first game is set to start at 12:00 p.m.
